Secret Spaces/Landscape Sketch Series, 2022, $3000

When I was asked to participate in the Portfolio Box Project, I was extremely busy preparing for my Artist of the Year Show at the San Antonio Arts League and Museum. For me the hook lay in the box’s requirement for paper pieces. The chance to professionally play with paper again warmed my heart. I hadn’t seriously worked on that surface for years. I smiled, remembering when I would sit on my grandmother's balcony with a box of a hundred Reeves BFK sheets and make myself do ten narrative drawings a day. Back then I called it exercise. Today, after this project’s exploration, I learned to call it freedom.
