About the artist...
American born artist, Julie Speed, spent her twenties working pickup jobs around the US and Canada before moving to Texas in 1978, where she taught herself to paint. She switches between the mediums of oil painting, printmaking, collage, drawing, and gouache, often combining them.
Speed focuses on surreal scenes in a realistic style, incorporating scientific illustrations and architectural drawings where she can. She now lives and works in Marfa, Texas.
